it’s quite normal for my clients to discover there were uncomfortable situations they didn’t know how to cope with, so they turned to the habit as a substitute.

Stress relief is possible and more satisfying, without addictive habits.
But as long as your emotions or logic are ruling your behavior, it will be much more difficult to pass on porn or food, in favor of going to the gym, asking a woman out, managing conflict with your partner, etc.

Using porn for emotional relief reduces emotional stability, adding stress.
If you’ve become dependent on porn for emotional relief, you’ve probably noticed low impulse control, sabotaging, distancing, or avoidant behavior within core relationships or potentially important relationships. With chronic use, this tends to get worse over time because of its impact on the brain and body’s reward system. Only paying attention to your emotions will lead you astray.

Logic alone won’t break porn addiction or any other unwanted habit.
Before working with my clients, they often tell me they’ve tried following recovery advice such as meditation, exercise, group programs, etc. Although logic is great for managing an experiences within controlled environments or behavior you’re familiar with, it will get very frustrated and move extremely slow trying to navigate unknown, uncontrolled territory.

Managing stress without addictive habits like porn is a BIG unknown if you haven’t done it before.
There is always something about the individual emotional and mental process tied to porn addiction that is hidden or unconscious and unique for each person. Otherwise, ending an addiction to porn would be a simple choice to follow someone else’s steps rather than something to wrestle with.

But you can start moving into unknown territory without porn addiction.
One skill that cuts through confusion is making decisions from instinct and intuition. It adds balance between emotion and logic while you learn to establish the boundary you need, and see the support you have, so stress is relieved more quickly and deeply without an addictive habit.
